I removed the Kerker pipe from my KZ1000 and noted some idiot had used the wrong pitch nuts to attach it.  The correct pitch is 8mm x 1.25.

Having read about "chasing the threads" etc. on the internet, I went to the hardware store and picked up a 8mm x 1.25 die for $5 bucks.  Careful to start it on the exhaust stud squarely, once it got going it scraped out the scrap metal that was stuck between the threads.    There were three studs that were messed up and I had them all fixed within 5 minutes.  That was way easier than replacing the studs!

Make sure to use the right size and pitch nuts for your exhaust.

American(Imperial) and Metric hardware look pretty close to those not informed.  They probably thought it's close enough, you're lucky the studs were not snapped off flush to the echaust ports.
